이번 학기 예상 시간표다. 사실 인터넷이 되기 시작한 어젯밤부터 이걸 짜고 있었다. 듣기로 잠정적으로 결정한 경제학과 전공 과목들 외에 타과 과목들 중에서 관심이 가고 시간이 맞는 것들을 골랐다. 물론 제목들은 영어로 되어 있는 것을 내가 임의로 번역한 것이다. '경제'가 들어간 것들이 거의 확정적이고, 나머지는 고려중이다. 슬래시로 구분되어 있는 것은 같은 시간대에 있어서 고민중인 것들이다. 물론 저대로 다 듣지는 못할 것이다. 20학점이 훌쩍 넘는 탓이다. 오늘 모 씨의 말에 따르면 미국 대학의 12학점은 한국으로 치면 21학점 정도의 학업 부담이라고 한다. 아무리 청강이라 하더라도 그냥 시간 때우러 혹은 자러 들어가는 게 아닌 이상 들을 것만 듣고 나머지는 포기해야겠지. 저기에서 꼭 듣고 싶은 청강 과목을 고르라면 미국사랑 고전정치경제학이론, 유럽근대지성사 정도를 고를 것 같다. 음, 그런다면 벌써 22. 어차피 다 못 듣겠구나. -_-; 항상 공부 욕심'만' 많다. 문제는 욕심을 부린 뒤 실제로 해야 될 때 제대로 하지 않는다는 것. 이번에는 좀 하도록 노력해보자. ㅎ

 

덧. 시간표를 검색하다보니 이 학교는 대체로 화/목 시간표가 일종의 '프라임 타임'인 것 같다. 그 때 재밌는 수업들이 많다. 나 역시 그 때 듣고 싶은 전공들의 상당수가 몰려있다. 그러다보니 다른 관심가는 과목들을 상당 수 포기할 수 밖에 없었다. ㅠ 월/수/금과 화/목의 색깔을 달리한 까닭은 앞서 설명한 것과 같은 이유로 시간대가 다르게 편성되어있기 때문이다. 보는 데 도움이 되셨길! (폭 좁은 블로그 탓에 그나마 가독성 있게 만들다가 또 시간이 훌쩍 갔다. -_-;)

+ 이 글을 올린 후 검색하다 보니 이런 세미나가 있다. 교수가 마침 한국에서 친구한테 이름을 들어본 사람. 유명한 학자인 듯. 오늘 서점 갔을 때 책을 보다가 관심 있는 책들을 많이 다루길래 과목 번호를 적어와서 확인한 건데, 와우. 이런게 딱 내가 하고 싶은 공부인데. 세미나라 빡세기도 빡셀 뿐더러 청강 자체가 가능할지 모르겠지만 일단 시도는 해봐야겠다.

This course will explore the history of capitalism as a concept, via the writings of (among others) Adam Smith, Karl Marx, Max Weber, the more recent interpretations of such figures as Fernand Braudel, Karl Polanyi, and Joseph Schumpter, and finally the speculations of contemporary commentators. The course will try to bring together the history of economic thought, historical sociology, and political theory with the aim of coming to an understanding of the value and the limits of this ubiquitous word.

+ 이 역시 관심있어서 적어온 수업. 으아, 최근 관심 가진 포스트식민주의를 다루고 있는데, 안타깝게도 전공이랑 시간이 겹친다. ㅠㅠ 한국이었다면 전공 제끼고 들었겠지만, 여기선 전공을 들어야만 하도록 손과 발이 묶인 탓에. ㅠㅠ

Among the welter of events following World War II, the emancipation of "colonial peoples" was among the most memorable. It was only in the 1950s that people of color started to be able to go to school and vote in America. Fanon’s Wretched of the Earth was one of the most famous accounts of "post-colonial" people. In this seminar we will examine the way in which "post-colonialism" developed as a way of thinking from the time of Fanon to the present. Part of the post-colonial project was to free colonized peoples not only from the juridical control of their masters but also the over-determining knowledges that made it impossible for these people to speak. One large area of "over-determining knowledges" was the writing of history itself. In sites such as South Asia, the Subaltern collective, following the publications of Edward Said, published a number of articles and books that was theoretically based on Marx, Michel Foucault and Antonio Gramsci. Other writers and movements picked up many of these traces. In this seminar we will read part of Paul Gilroy's Black Atlantic, Partha Chatterjee's, Nationalist Thought and the Colonial World, Zadie Smith, White Teeth, along with sections from Said, Foucault, Gramsci and Marx. Members of the class will be able to write their papers on any world area that reflects these post-colonial orientations wherever they find a resonance.
